Why should I pray, when God already knows everything?

Just like me, you may have wondered why we should pray when God already knows everything. Our God is the all-knowing God (Omniscient). He knows the past, present, and future. Nothing is hidden from His eyes nor can anybody hide anything from Him.

We children of God pray daily for every single need of our lives which can be big or small. We mention our problems in ministry, life struggles, family issues, church conflicts, and many more.

We talk about the evil in the world. Many girls are raped; neighbors are killing neighbors, shooting, stealing, human pride, hatred, and much more.

Having pondered on this, the questions come to mind “will my prayer solve all these issues?” why does God want me to pray? Why doesn’t He just fix everything by Himself?

Prayer

Before we move forward and understand anything, let’s see the meaning of Prayer. Prayer simply means talking with God, making praise and requests known to God. In the Bible, there are so many examples of people who cried to God and God heard them. If God calls us His children then we must talk with Him because He is our heavenly father.

We Are Dependent.

When a child of God prays it does not always mean that he wants something or asking for something. It can be understood as He is talking with His heavenly father.

When we pray, we acknowledge that we are helpless, weak, and dependent upon the Lord and His grace and mercy. There are things that we cannot do by ourselves, so we need Him.

We Christian are fully dependent on Him for strength, joy, peace and every provision to be alive. We are dependent beings.

Jesus Prayed

In the Bible we read Jesus often withdrew from the crowd and went on the mountain to spend the night praying (Luke 6:12, Matthew 14:23, Matthew 26:36).  Jesus prayed early in the morning (Mark 1:35).

If Jesus Himself had to pray when He was on the earth then how important the prayer should be for us. Even though He was God in manly form, He needed to pray in order to be in the will of His Father.

He prayed and set an example for us to follow Him. He even told us to pray in Matthew 6:6, Matthew 17:21, Luke 18:1.

Prayer is an act of faith

Jesus said, “whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matthew 21:22). When a child of God prays it just shows that He is depending on God and trusting for whatever he asks for. Sometimes it becomes hard to trust when things get tough but praying in faith always pleases God. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

He wants us to talk with Him

He has given us the opportunity to be His children and as a father He wants us to share our heart with Him. He wants us to cast our burdens on Him and trust Him.

God always thinks well for us, He says in Jeremiah 29:11 He has the plans to prosper us and give us hope and a future. Whatever we need we can get, if we have time to be with Him.

We read in the Bible how God helped and gave victory to the kings when they had time to seek His counsel and not only just that, He gave directions and guidance to His prophets, priests, and servants to succeed.

He wants to do the same for those who have heart and time for Him.

Conclusion

Having daily conversations with God builds a strong bond with God. It helps us grow spiritual life and changes us into His likeness. There is hope, joy, and peace in His presence that nothing of this world can give.

Prayer is so important to fulfill God-given purpose and to be in the will of God. Spending time with God helps us fight with every scheme that the devil uses against us. Never give up on prayer no matter what.
